Welcome!
Hi there! I’m Dr. Heather Calhoon
Life can feel overwhelming when we’re constantly striving to meet expectations and fit in with those around us. These pressures can leave us feeling isolated or misunderstood, especially when the demands of society seem never-ending. I understand this experience deeply as my own journey began in the high-stress world of emergency response, where I witnessed firsthand how chaos and stress can impact our well-being. Now, as a psychologist, I draw on those experiences to create a safe and compassionate space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Therapy is more than just conversation; it’s a process of self-discovery, growth, and healing. My goal is to help you navigate life’s challenges and transform the journey of self-understanding into one of empowerment and hope.
.
How I Can Help
During our sessions, you can expect practical tools, thoughtful listening, and strategies personalized to your unique concerns. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and always centers on your individual needs. I am committed to helping you build resilience, gain clarity, and make meaningful changes in your life. By fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment, I aim to help you feel safe and understood, giving you the freedom to explore your thoughts and emotions openly.
Together, we will work to identify and address the root causes of your challenges, manage stress, regulate emotions, and handle life’s ups and downs with greater ease. As you gain insight into your thoughts and behaviors, you’ll be better equipped to improve your mental health, strengthen your relationships, and cultivate a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Professional Background
My diverse experiences and education have fueled my passion for supporting others.
Here’s a glimpse into how my background equips me to support you effectively on your journey.
How I Got Here
My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by a deep desire to help others overcome emotional and psychological struggles. Inspired by my own experiences and the impact mental health has had on my life, I chose a career where I could make a meaningful difference. Over the years, I have worked in various roles, including as a first responder, where I saw the intense pressures and trauma people face during crises.
These experiences taught me the importance of empathy and resilience and reinforced my commitment to providing clients with a sanctuary where they can heal and grow. I am passionate about guiding individuals to uncover their true selves, develop coping skills, and discover new pathways for growth. This journey has solidified my belief in the transformative power of therapy and my dedication to supporting others in their pursuit of mental and emotional well-being.
Education & Training
I hold a master’s and doctorate in Clinical Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School, with a specialization in Police Psychology. My training includes extensive work in trauma, crisis intervention, and psychological assessments. In addition, I have completed extensive training in critical incident stress management (CISM), Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing.
These experiences have been instrumental in shaping my therapeutic approach, allowing me to integrate evidence-based techniques with a compassionate, client-centered philosophy. My specialized knowledge and skills enable me to provide tailored strategies for each individual, fostering resilience and promoting overall mental well-being.
